Helen Folasade Adu, poznatija kao Sade, rođena 16. januara 1959. godine, je kompozitor, tekstopisac,aranžer, muzički producent i pevačica izuzetnog kontra alt glasa. Vođa je i glavni vokal popularne, Gremijem nagrađivane grupe, koja je po njoj nazvana ‚‚Sade" .

Sade je rođena u Ibadanu (Nigerija). Njeni roditelji Bizi Adu, nigerijski profesor ekonomije, i Ana Hejz, engleska medicinska sestra, upoznali su se u Londonu,a kasnije se preselili u zapadnu Afriku. Kasnije, kada im je brak zapao u teškoće, Ana se vratila u Englesku,kod svojih roditelja, vodeći sa sobom četvorogodišnju Sade i njenog starijeg brata. Dok je živela u Kolčesteru Sade je dosta čitala, razvila interesovanje za modu i ples i sa zadovoljstvom slušala soul izvođače kao što su Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, i Marvin Gaye.
1977. ona se seli u London na trogodišnji kurs modnog dizajna na koledžu Sent Martin. Po diplomiranju, otvorila je malu modnu radnju u Londonu, sa prijateljem Džoi Melorom. Takođe je radila i kao fotomodel.

Prvi put izlazi na muzičku scenu kao članica latino soul grupe ‚‚Arriva" ,u kojoj je prvi put otpevala pesmu ‚‚Smooth Operator" koja će kasnije postati njen prvi hit na teritoriji SAD. Ovu pesmu je napisala zajedno sa gitaristom Ray St. John-om. Sama grupa Arriva nije dugo trajala. Uskoro potom pridružuje se soul grupi ‚‚Pride" kao prateći vokal, u kome su bili Ray St. John, gitarista Stuart Matthewman, basista Paul Denman, i bubnjar Paul Cooke. Međutim Ray St. John je uskoro napustio bend dok su preostala četiri člana formirala novu grupu nazvavši je ‚‚Sade". Klavijaturista Andrew Hale se pridružio bendu 1983.
Njeno solo izvođenje pesme ‚‚Smooth Operator" privuklo je pažnju muzičkih kompanija i 1983. potpisuje samostalni ugovor s Epic Records, sa sobom je povela tri člana grupe, Stuarta Matthewmana, Andrewa Halea i Paula Denmana. Sade i njen bend objavili su 1984. prvi iz niza uspešnih albuma, debitantski ‚‚Diamond Life", i naknadno prodali preko 50 milona albuma.
1985. se pojavljuje u filmu ‚‚Apsolutni početnici“ u režiji Džulijen Templ, gde igra pevačicu Atenu Dankanon. 1986. se seli u Madrid. 1989. udala se za španskog filmskog reditelja Carlosa Pliega, od koga se razvela 1995. Čerku Ilu Adu, rodila je 1996. nakon veze sa Bobom Morganom jamajčanskim producentom.
2002. godine učestvovala je na kompilaciji (i kao koproducent) Red Hot and Riot, Red Hot Organization-a, objavljenoj u počast nigerijskog muzičara Fela Kuti, snimivši remix svog hit singla ‚‚By Your Side".
Trenutno živi u Stroudu u Velikoj Britaniji zajedno sa svojim partnerom Ianom, sinom Jackom i ćerkom Ilom.

2002. dodeljeno joj je britansko odlikovanje ‚‚Order of the British Empire". 2005. godine snimila je novu numeru ‚‚Mum" koju je prethodno izvela u na dobrotvornom koncertu „Glasovi za Darfur“ . Pre objave albuma ‚‚Soldier of Love" 2010. godine, Daily Mail je Sade opisao kao "slavno povučenu" ("famously reclusive").
