Irski alternativni rock band The Cranberries osnovan je 1990. godine u Limericku. Sastav čine Dolores O'Riordan (vokal, gitara), Noel Hogan (gitara), Mike Hogan (bas) i Fergal Lawler (bubnjevi).

The Cranberries su ostvarili najveći uzlet, najbrži pad, ali i senzacionalni povratak na pop-rock sceni devedesetih. Krajem 1993. godine, kada su snimili nastupni album, s izuzetkom lokalne publike u selu pokraj Limericka te ljudi u diskografskoj kući Island koji su grupu prihvatili na osnovi demo snimki „Dreams“ i „Linger“, jedva da je tko čuo za budući najveći izvozni irski glazbeni proizvod poslije U2.

Godinu kasnije – nakon početnog slabog proboja prvijenca na britanskim listama te zapanjujućeg uzleta u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama – The Cranberries i njihova krhka pjevačica Dolores O'Riordan na samom su vrhu globalnih rang-ljestvica. „Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?“ ponudio je uspješnu formulu: krhki, ali zvonak i upečatljiv vokal Dolores O'Riordan, pop stilizacije te naglašeno gitarski zvuk u tradiciji britanskog post-Smiths indie-rocka, prvijencu su u nešto više od godine priskrbili milijunske naklade.

„No Need To Argue“ bio je logičan hit nastavak uspješne priče. Album je dao megahit „Zombie“ – uspješno zbrajanje grunge-manirizma a la Pearl Jam s temeljnom pop formulom The Cranberriesa – te uspješnice koje su pomogle golemoj prođi albuma i laskavoj tituli najprodavanije europske ploče u 1995. godini.

Tijekom turneje koja je promovirala album javljale su se glasine o odlasku Dolores iz grupe, no The Cranberries 1996. godine snimaju „rokerskiji“, ali autorski mnogo bljeđi „To The Faithful Departed“. Relativno slaba prođa albuma samo je potencirala unutarnje sukobe u grupi, a nakon otkazane turneje po Australiji i Europi, mediji su izvijestili da su se The Cranberries razišli.

Ipak, nakon trogodišnje pauze, 1999. godine objavljuju album „Bury The Hatchet“. Album je također bio „rokerskiji“ od prvih dvaju projekata, s utjecajima progresivnog rocka, gitarskim distorzijama i tekstovima s ambicijom seciranja društvenih tema. Grupa je djelovala kompaktno, no album je bio bez pravih skladbi i velikih hitova.

„Wake Up And Smell The Coffee“ iz 2001. godine svojevrsni je povratak na formulu i formu nastupnog albuma s nekoliko uspješnica dok je svjetska turneja koja je pratila izdavanje albuma The Cranberriesima vratila negdašnje pozicije.

Za 2012. godinu najavljuje se izlazak šestog studijskog albuma „Roses“.

Still, ti si zaslužan za ovu temu. Imala sam ju u planu otvoriti jer sam veliki obožavatelj The Cranberriesa, a ti si me na to podsjetio ono jutro uz kavicu i Linger givenheart

Bosnia
