Bob Dylan (pravim imenom Robert Zimmerman), rođen 24. svibnja 1941. godine, američki je pjevač, skladatelj i pjesnik i jedan od najznačajnijih i najutjecajnijih pojedinačnih autorskih i izvođačkih ličnosti rocka. Karijeru započinje dolaskom u New York 1961. godine djelujući na folk sceni Greenwich Villagea, a na etiketu Columbia Records dovodi ga 1962. godine poznati lovac na talente i producent John Hammond. Nastupni album „Bob Dylan“ – na kojemu su se našli blues standardi te dvije autorske skladbe – objavio je 1962., no već iduće godine začeta je trilogija utjecajnih albuma. „The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan“ – koji je dao i prvi veliki hit „Blowin in the Wind“ – te njegovi nasljednici „The Times They Are a-Changin“ i „Another Side of Bob Dylan“ tvore zaokruženu folk-fazu u kojoj su prisutni utjecaji Woodieja Guthrieja te angažirani tekstovi. No, umjesto apstraktnih mirotvornih fraza, Dylan je progovorio žestoko i izravno, a njegove skladbe poput „Masters of War“, „A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall“, „Talking World War III Blues“, „With God on Our Side“ te „Chimes of Freedom“ prihvaćene su kao legitiman iskaz glasnogovornika nove generacijske pobune. No već „Another Side of Bob Dylan“ uvodi i nove teme osim žestokih protestnih brojeva pa je album tranzicije prema novim neistraženim glazbenim prostorima i posvajanjima rocka i utjecaja Beatlesa.

„Bringing It All Back Home“ iz 1965. godine donio je prvi korak izvan tradicionalnoga folk-trubadurskog miljea. Snimajući uz podršku pratećeg rock-benda – jer album je dijelom sniman akustičnim, a dijelom, pak, električnim glazbalima – Dylan je utemeljio novi utjecajni hibrid: folk-rock. U folk-krugovima bio je shvaćen kao izdaja, ali je dobio golemu podršku znatno šire rokerske publike čemu će kasnije doprinijeti i Byrds snimajući „Mr. Tambourine Man“ kao prvi u nizu covera Dylanovih skladbi.

„Highway 61 Revisited“ snimljen je nakon prve britanske turneje 1965. godine i prvi je potpuno elektrificiran Dylanov album. Utjecaj albuma bio je golem, ali također i komercijalni uspjeh. Naime, i šestominutni hit singl „Like a Rolling Stone“ i album dospjeli su na Top 10 dokazujući da je Dylan stekao podršku rock publike.

Godinu kasnije uslijedio je „Blonde on Blonde“, prvi dvostruki album nekog od vodećih rock-autora/izvođača, a bio je rezultat studijske kolaboracije s Hawkinsima (Rick Danko i Robbie Robertson, činili su jezgru grupe koja će poslije postati The Band), Alom Kooperom te vrhunskim nešvilskim session-glazbenicima. Donio je neke od najboljih Dylanovih ljubavnih skladbi: „Just Like a Woman“, „Visions of Johanna“ i „I Want You“.

Nakon motociklističke prometne nesreće koja je poslužila kao isprika za jednoipolgodišnje povlačenje, zajedno s The Bandom, Dylan u Woodstocku sklada i snima skladbe koje će se na albumu pojaviti tek osam godina kasnije. Materijal „The Basement Tapes“ predstavio je ponovno „novog Dylana“, neopterećenog „mesijanskom“ ulogom, s pjesmama koje umjesto velikih istina nude slojevite eliptične tekstove i žanrovski neuhvatljivu glazbenu potku s temama „This Wheel's on Fire“, „Too Much of Nothing“ ili „Tears Rage“.

„John Wesley Hardin“ iz 1968. godine bio je, pak, službeni povratnički album nakon pauze te pun biblijskih referenci i mračnih poetskih slika uz pionirske country-rock fuzije. Godinu kasniji „Nashville Skyline“ dao je hit singl „Lay Lady Lay“ i bio je nadahnuta posveta countryju snimljena s nešvilskim session glazbenicima. Nakon blijedog „Self Portrait“, Dylan iste 1970. godine objavljuje „New Morning“ kao povratak u autorsku i izvođačku formu. Slijedio je soundtrack iz filma „Pat Garret & Billy The Kid“, čija tema „Knockin' on Heavens Door“ postaje globalni hit.

Sljedeća dva albuma loše su prošla u usporedbi sa zgodicima iz rane faze. Posve promašeni „Dylan“ (1973) donio je skladbe koje nisu ušle na „Self Portrait“, a „Planet Waves“ – koji je dospio na prvo mjesto rang lista – bio je ipak osrednji plod suradnje s The Bandom. Mnogo bolji bio je dvostruki koncertni „Before the Flood“ (1974).

„Blood on the Tracks“ objavljen 1975. novo je studijsko remek-djelo. S jakim emocionalnim nabojem, Dylan je traumatično iskustvo raspada braka pretočio u iznimne skladbe. Dio kritike opori je ton albuma i ljubavno-ispovjedne teme shvatio i kao metaforu Dylanova „oproštaja“ od šezdesetih i utopijske supkulturne ideje kojoj je i sam bio ikona.

Uslijedila je velika jednogodišnja „Rolling Thunder Revue“, čiji je fascinantni dvostruki album objavljen tek 2002. godine. Na turneji, koja je bila zamišljena kao putujuća varijetetska predstava, Dylan je predstavio i skladbe s novog albuma „Desire“ koji je objavio 1976. Na albumu – novom autorskom i izvođačko trijumfu – se, osim iznimne „Hurricane“, našlo još nekoliko vrsnih brojeva osebujnog folk-rocka s dominantnim zvukom violine, poput „Isis“, „Sara“, „Mozambique“ i „One More Cup of Coffee“.

Kasniji niz albuma, poput „Street Legal“ iz 1978., a posebice trolista blijedih „vjerskih“ albuma „Slow Train Coming“ (1979), „Saved“ (1980) i „Shot of Love“ (1981) snimljenih nakon Dylanovog otkrivanja kršćanstva, bili su razočaravajući u usporedbi s „Desire“. Jedini Dylanov značajniji projekt u osamdesetima bio je „Oh Mercy“ iz 1989., a snimljen u produkciji Daniela Lanoisa, koji novome setu vrlo dobrih skladbi daje „ambijentalno“ ruho.

Početkom devedesetih Dylan objavljuje akustične folkom i bluesom nadahnute albume „Good as I Been to You“ (1992) i „World Gone Wrong“ (1993), a potom i akustični „MTV Unplugged“ da bi pravi povratak zabilježio na iznimnom „Time Out of Mind“ iz 1997. Album je dugovao iskustvu dvaju prethodnih minimalističkih akustičarskih projekata koji su Dylana vratili korijenima, nizu koncerata na kojima je Dylan preispitivao vlastitu glazbenu prošlost te suradnji s producentom Lanoisom i „prljavoj“ produkciji koja je naglasila vokal i emocionalnost skladbi.

Izuzetan je bio i sljedeći „Love & Theft“ iz 2001. s vrhunskim autorskim materijalom među kojima su se našle i romantične balade i žestoki rockabilly ili rock brojevi. „No Direction Home – The Soundtrack: The Bootled Series Volume 7“ 2005. je donio novi nastavak opsežne diskografske serije reizdanja i objavljivanja ranije nedostupnih snimaka. Album je ujedno bio i soundtrack istoimenog dokumentarnog filma koje je o Dylanu snimio redatelj Martin Scorsese. Godine 2006. objavio je album „Modern Times“ koji ga je doveo na prvo mjesto američke top liste i tako je to bio prvi njegov album, nakon „Desire“ iz 1976. koji ga je doveo na tu poziciju. Album „Together Through Life“ objavljen je 2009. godine, a pjesme su snimljene nakon što je nastala pjesma „Life Is Hard“ za film Olivera Dahana „My Own Love Song“.

P. S. Htjela sam postaviti i video, ali na YouTubeu sam uočila nešto čudno - nema niti jedna Dylanova pjesma koju sam pokušala naći, samo obrade njegovih pjesama Shocked
